Solution
Scope of works
A trade-by-trade scope register, built from the documents.
Scope between packages is where money leaks. The waterproofer prices to the drawings, the tiler prices to the drawings, and the screed between them belongs to whoever loses the argument on site. Writing a scope of works for every trade means reading the whole set once per trade, and there are thirty trades.
CIM reads the drawings and the specification into a scope register for each trade, with the sheet and clause behind every line. What the documents say about that trade is in one place, in the order the work happens.
Match the register against the quotes that come back and the exclusions line up against the scope they exclude. A gap between two packages shows up while both are still being negotiated, which is the only time it costs nothing to close.
What comes back
A scope register per trade, matched against the quotes that came in.
| Scope item | Source | Covered |
|---|---|---|
| Membrane to all wet areas, class III | Spec 07 14 §2.1 | Both quotes |
| Screed to falls, wet areas | A-2104 · detail 6 | Excluded by both |
| Puddle flanges to floor wastes | H-4102 · detail 2 | Both quotes |
| Balcony upturns at door thresholds | A-5202 · detail 11 | One quote only |
Quotes received
- Aqua Seal3 exclusions
- Coastline WP5 exclusions
Both quotes exclude the screed. It belongs to a package while both are still being negotiated.
